One to Watch – Wyong

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 8

Corumbene Stud have bred a lot of good horses including a couple of Golden Slipper winners in Sebring and Overreach, who is the dam of an eye-catching maiden winner at Wyong on Thursday.

Trained by Team Hawkes, three year-old Zoustar filly Ninette made her debut last month with a good second to another blueblood Zoustar filly in Silver Wedding, who is chasing Black Type this Saturday in the Group III Gold Coast Guineas.

Sent off a short priced favourite for the 1100m maiden with Tyler Schiller to ride, Ninette got the job done easily, skipping clear to win by a couple of lengths.

Retained to race by Corumbene Stud, Ninette is a half-sister to Group II winner Lofty Strike, who stands at Swettenham Stud and is the fourth winner from four to race from super talented Exceed and Excel filly Overreach, who was the Champion 2YO Filly of her generation.

Overreach has an unraced two year-old filly by Capitalist called Loera that has been retained and given to Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott to train and a yearling filly by Snitzel.

She missed in 2023 so had no foal last year and was covered very late last season by Zoustar.
