One to Watch – Curragh

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 6

He’s a Coolmore homebred blueblood, but sired by Darley’s champion stallion Dubawi and Officer opened his stakes account overnight at The Curragh winning the Listed Tetrarch Stakes (1m).

Trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, Officer won his only start at two and resumed with a third against older horses in the Listed Gladness Stakes in March.

Now on a path to the Group I Irish 2000 Guineas he confirmed his potential when racing to a dominant length and three-quarter win in this assignment as a short priced favourite.

“We're delighted with Officer. He had a lovely run first time back in the Gladness and won very nicely here as a two-year-old. Ryan [Moore] was delighted they went a good gallop and he said he learned plenty about him,” said Aidan O’Brien.

“I'd think the Irish Guineas looks perfect for him. He's a great shape of a horse, really mature and strong.”

Siyouni colt Paddington won this race for Coolmore two years ago before going on to win the Irish 2000 guineas and another three G1 races, so it’s a proven pathway for success.

Officer is a full brother to Group I placed stakes-winner Wingspan and is the second winner from dual Group I winning Galileo mare Hydrangea, a full sister to Group I winners The United States and Hermosa.

He is the 299th stakes-winner for Dubawi, who is on the cusp of a massive milestone!

Dubawi is now 23 years old and shuttled to Australia for the first three seasons of his long and fruitful stud career standing at fees of $33,000, $33,000 and then $16,500.
