John Size and Zac Purton combined to win the Group III The Queen Mother Memorial Cup (2400m) at Sha Tin on Sunday with up and coming stayer Bundle Award.

Seventh in the Hong Kong Derby in April, the four year-old gelding relished the longer distance to score by a head.

He has now won six of 12 starts with three of those wins coming in Australia when he raced as Prince Prawn before his transfer to Hong Kong.

Bundle Award’s performance has John Size considering a start in the HK$13 million G1 Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup (2400m) on 31 May at Sha Tin.

“We’ll see how he is. He’s not rated up to that (Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup) at the moment, but let’s have a look and see what’s available for him,” Size said.

“He’s been really good for us and he’s performed admirably today. It was a big job for him to do that to go to another distance and still win.

“It was hard to predict how they would run the race, but it probably was always going to be a slow-run affair but, a long way from home, he looked like he might be able to win the race. It was just a matter of whether he was in the frame of mind to go on with it.

“He’s physically fine, I think he’s just got to learn to a little bit more about racing and a little bit more about how to win a race.”

A $110,000 Magic Millions Tasmania purchase for John Foote Bloodstock from the Alva Stud draft, Bundle Award is the best of four winners from five to race from West Quest (USA) mare Ecosse, a winning full sister to stakes-placed Aprilia.

Bundle Award is the 28th stakes-winner for Rosemont Stud’s Shamus Award, who stands at a fee of $33,000 this spring.
