Debut Winner For Cool Aza Beel

Dane Squance - Wednesday April 30

Wednesday’s Ipswich meeting kicked off with the first of three QTIS Maidens for the two-year-olds, won in fine style by Matthew Dunn’s 2yo Cool Aza Beel (NZ) filly Don’t Tellyafather.

Fancied in the betting off the back of four barrier trials efforts, the filly jumped away well from the gates under Damien Thornton before settling in fourth position on the outside of Tony Gollan’s well-supported Excelboom (Spirit Of Boom).

Newhaven Park's Cool Aza Beel produced smart debut winner Don't Tellyafather

Asked for an effort by Thornton just before the turn, the filly worked up on the outside of the leading duo before accelerating away at the 200m mark.

While the winner never looked like being run down, the effort of the runner up Egyptian Melody (Brave Smash) highlighted herself as a potential future winner after coming from the tail of the field to finish a half-length off the winner.

Don't Tellyafather was a $45,000 purchase for Topline Thoroughbreds Ptd Ltd, Neil Jenkinson (FBAA) and Matthew Dunn from the Newhaven Park draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale Book 2.

$45,000 Magic Millions yearling purchase Don't Tellyafather

The third winner from five runners out of the More Than Ready mare Sparkle, herself a daughter of dual Group 1 winner Galica (Redoute’s Choice), Don't Tellyafather is the fourth individual winner (third in Australia) from the first crop of the Newhaven Park-based Cool Aza Beel who has also been represented by the stakes performers Cool Archie and Cobra Club.

Sparkle is due to foal in the upcoming season to Newhave Park's multiple Group 1-winning Savebeel stallion Mo'Unga in his first season at stud.
