An 11th Group One winner has joined the catalogue for the 2025 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
Lady Laguna, one of the country's toughest and most talented sprinting mares, is an early highlight for the supplementary catalogue along with fellow OTI stakes winner Femminile and Tony Gollan's explosive sprinter, Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Skirt the Law.
A group performer in each season she has raced, Lady Laguna showed immense ability early with back to back metropolitan juvenile wins before a close second in the Listed Lonhro Plate and third in the Group Two Sweet Embrace Stakes to Fireburn and She's Extreme.
As a three-year-old, the daughter of I Am Invincible's son Overshare won the Listed Mick Dittman Plate as well as a swag of Group placings in Melbourne and Sydney.
In the summer of 2023 and 2024 Lady Laguna hit new levels when she won the Listed Nudgee Stakes and then the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares before heading to Sydney and cruising home in the Group Three Southern Cross Stakes.
After a close second to boom sprinter Zougotcha in the Group Two Millie Fox she easily beat Think About It and Espiona in the Group One Canterbury Stakes at Randwick.
Since then the outstanding mare has raced at the elite level and only last start she was third, beaten less than a length, in the Group Two Sapphire Stakes.
As well as her outstanding race record, Lady Laguna comes with a first class, black type filled family.
Her dam, the city winning Encosta de Lago mare Catalina de Lago, is a half sister to She Will Be Loved, Thorn Dancer and Mya as well as the dam of Luke's Luck.
Also in the pedigree are Group winners Extreme Warrior, Gotta Have Heart, Swear, All Thrills Too, Silky Red Boxer and Triple Group One winner Lucia Valentina.
"Lady Laguna has been a dream for us to be involved with," OTI Director Gus Boyd said. "She's been such a high-class, tough and honest filly throughout her career."
"While her Group One Canterbury Stakes was the pinnacle, we're extremely proud of her consistency - having finished in the top three of black type and feature races on 17 occasions."
"I'm not sure we've ever had another horse in our colours with an attitude as good as hers," Boyd added.
Lady Laguna isn't the only OTI Racing stakes winner in the supplementary - she will be joined by Dundeel's classy three-year-old daughter Femminile as another racing and breeding prospect.
On Saturday Femminile finished strongly in the Group One Australasian Oaks - just 3.3 lengths from the winner.
Femminile, a winner of the Listed Oaklands Plate at two, is from the stakes performed Pierro mare Femme Fireball, a full sister to multiple Group winner and $744,000 earner Rock.
Both Lady Laguna and Femminile with be offered as part of an outstanding Newgate Consignment at the National Broodmare Sale.
"Lady Laguna is a spectacular-looking mare with a rare combination of attributes: Group One level consistency, outstanding outcross genetics and proven Group performance across every year of her career," Newgate's Henry Field said.
"She is a gem, and we at Newgate are incredibly grateful to Terry, Gus and the OTI team for entrusting her in our draft," Field added.
Meanwhile, former explosive juvenile Skirt the Law will provide an incredible opportunity for breeders when she goes under the hammer as part of the supplementary.
The daughter of Better Than Ready was the pin-up juvenile of her season in Queensland, winning her first three starts culminating in success in the $2 million The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
The Tony Gollan prepared mare is from the stakes performed Exceed and Excel mare Outlaw Kate - a half sister to Group One winning sprinter Masked Crusader.
Skirt the Law, a winner of over $1.7 million, will be offered as part of the Eureka Stud draft.
"These early supplementary lots add to what is a truly world class catalogue," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.
