First Stakes-Winner for Dracarys

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 26

Bargain priced Snitzel stallion Dracarys posted his first stakes-winner at Eagle Farm on Saturday when two year-old filly Dragonne Rouge won the $200,000 Listed BRC Calaway Gal Stakes (1200m).

Trained by Shaun Dwyer and ridden by Andrew Mallyon, Dragonne Rouge won her first two starts at Sunshine Coast and Doomben before making it three from three in winning by nearly a length over previously unbeaten filly Ha’Penny Hatch.

Dragonne Rouge has won $234,100 and there will be plenty of stakes options for her in coming weeks.

Dragonne Rouge was a $25,000 MM Gold Coast March yearling purchase.

Dragonne Rouge was a $25,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale purchase for her trainer from the draft of Oakwood Farm, who also stand her sire Dracarys.

Bred by Oakwood Farm, Dragonne Rouge is the best of four winners from four foals to race from Mondeuse, a winning daughter of Group I winner Star Shiraz and half-sister to the dam of multiple Group II winning $2.3million earner Savatiano.

Mondeuse is married to Dracarys and has a yearling colt and weanling filly to follow and is back in foal to him again.

Dracarys is the sire of Dragonne Rouge

Dracarys was a $1million Magic Millions purchase from Arrowfield Stud for James Harron Bloodstock and was a Group III winner on the track, but ultimately fell short of the standard required for a Hunter Valley farm so was given his chance at stud in Queensland.

He has been standing at a fee of $6,600 and has sired 21 winners in total from small books of mares with his oldest progeny four year-olds.
