Who Covered the Dams of Group One Winners?

Breednet - Thursday April 5
A few days ago we ran a well read article on which stallions served the stakes-winning mares just off the track, so we thought we'd take a look at what stallions have got lucky by having served the dams of this season's Group One winners.

The dam of Golden Slipper winner Estijaab was covered by her sire SnitzelThere are certainly no surprises with some of them, Estijaab's mother Response going back to Snitzel for example, and it's been well documented that Exceed And Excel got the job with Winx's dam Vegas Showgirl.

They're the big names used to serving the cream of the mares but for some stallions starting out or trying to prove themselves, it can mean just that little bit more with a mare due to foal a newly minted half-sister or brother to a Group One winner in the coming season.

One of those would be Tarzino, who served 124 mares at New Zealand's Westbury Stud last year, one of which was Stylish Bel, dam of the Rosehill Guineas placegetter Montaigne who in the past two months has risen to the top of the pack in Hong Kong as Beauty Generation, winner of the Gr1 Hong Kong Mile and Gr1 Silver Jubilee Cup in his last three runs.

Likewise Kitchwin Hills would have been happy to see Hellbent get his Group One win in the William Reid Stakes at his final start with their new recruit Sooboog having his dam Volkaspray among his first season book.

Darley sent their dashing grey triple Group One winner Frosted (USA) to Victoria last spring and he covered 103 mares including Fast Fleet, the dam of spring Group I winner Santa Ana Lane.

And there's Grandview Stud's first season horse last year Under The Louvre who counted Hell It's Hot, dam of last week's Gr1 Galaxy winner In Her Time among his first book of 63.

The dam of recent Hong Kong Derby winner Ping Hai Star was sent to Arrowfield Stud's Japanese super star Maurice (Jpn), a mating sure to produce something irresistible for Asian buyers!

Below is the list of Group One winners so far this season with an Australian or NZ based dam and the stallion they visited last season.
