Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Thursday April 24

There were seven heats for juveniles at Randwick on Thursday morning and some very interesting unraced winners, but none more so than the half-sister by Wootton Bassett (GB) to last weekend’s Group III winner Lilac.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Agarwood was having her third lifetime trial and second this prep and looked super impressive for Rachel King. She jumped fast to quickly take the lead and was always in control before slipping away from her rivals to win by nearly eight lengths in the quickest time for the 2YO heats at 1045m.

A $420,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Coolmore, Agarwood is a half-sister to Group III winner Lilac and is the third foal of Group II placed Paulownia, a full sister to Group I winner and sire Foxwedge and stakes-winner She’s a Fox.

A $420,000 Inglis Easter purchase, Agarwood is a seriously nice looking filly!

Expensive Extreme Choice colt Pimlico learned a bit more this morning at his third trial when he was asked to finish off and win his heat for the John O’Shea and Tom Charlton stable with Zac Lloyd in the saddle.

A $1.2million Inglis Easter purchase from Newgate Farm for Rosemont Stud / Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA), Pimlico is the third foal of imported US stakes-winner Coco as in Chanel (USA), whose three wins were all at 5f.

Trained by Peter Snowden, Capitalist filly Nazwah carries the colours of her breeder Emirates Park and looks to have a good bit of the family ability. She travelled wide and was too strong at her second trial scoring by a length and a laf for Tyler Schiller and looks ready to go racing.

Nazwah is a half-sister to Group III winner Charm Stone and stakes-winner Najmaty being from good producing Group III winner Najoom, who has had four foals to race all winners with this girl very likely to make it five winners.

The quickest of the  740m heats was the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Extreme choice filly Mimi’s, who improved sharply on her only trial last year when she dropped out and ran a poor last. This time around she led all the way for Rachel King and won by a length and a half.

A $525,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Newgate Farm, Mimi’s is a half-sister to Group II winner King’s Gambit from Group III winner Sultry Feeling.

Additional heat winners were: Chicama (Written Tycoon), Pillow Flight (Zoustar), Rainbow Glow (Snitzel).
