Figlio D'Argento Gives D’Argento Four Winners In Four Days

Dane Squance - Monday April 21

As we head towards Sunday’s Inglis HTBA yearling Sale, the victory of Mark and Levi Kavanagh’s 3yo D’Argento gelding Figlio D'Argento on Easter Monday at Sandown-Lakeside shines a spotlight on Bowness Stud who will offer 12 yearlings by their Group 1 Rosehill Guineas winner at the sale.

With Craig Williams in the saddle, Figlio D'Argento pulled himself to the lead and although he was considered one of the outsiders in the field, the grey ran them along from the front with the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman trained race favourite Supernima (Super Seth) unable to bridge the gap on the line.

Recording his seconds win from just five starts, the 3yo gelding was purchased from the draft of Bowness Stud at the Magic Millions Adelaide yearling sale for $55,000 by Newco before unfortunately failing to reach his reserve when offered later in the year at the Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs In Training Sale.

The sire of six stakes performers led by Listed winner Statuario, the current pre-post favourite for the Gr1 South Australian Derby, Figlio D'Argento became D’Argento’s fourth individual winner in the last four days, in what has surely been an exciting Easter long weekend for James and Joss Daly of Bowness Stud.

“It’s great to see the horses performing so well for their owners. They’re giving us a lot of confidence, whether they’re jumping out in front or coming from behind, they’re finding ways to win,” enthused James Daly.

“Four winners in the last four days, over a range of distances, is pretty impressive. We’re also really looking forward to watching Statuario in the South Australian Derby and All Kinds Of Folk in this Saturday’s Group 1 Australasian Oaks, it’s an exciting time.”

Set to offer a draft of 21 yearlings at Sunday’s HTBA sale, 12 of which are by D’Argento including colts from the family of Group 1 winners Western Empire (Lot 12), General Nediym (Lot 32) and Aqua D’Amore (Lot 141), while fillies from the families of Group 1 winners include El Mirada (Lot 33), She Will Reign (Lot 78), Silky Oak (Lot 149), Music Magnate (Lot 157), Hit The Roof (Lot 218) and Catbird (Lot 262).

Bowness Stud’s Inglis HTBA yearling draft will be available for inspections at the Riverside Stables complex from Thursday, April 24 in Barn E.
