Dane Squance - Sunday April 20

A blueblood Super Seth filly retained to race by Trelawney Stud was a standout maiden winner on Sunday.

After a debut second on March 27 at Pakenham, just three parts of a length off the winner over 1200m, the Ben, Will & JD Hayes trained Super Seth filly Madiyya (NZ) was super impressive at Sale.

The half-sister to dual Group I winner Grunt recorded her maiden victory by three and a half lengths when stepping up to the 1400m.

Under jockey Daniel Stackhouse, Madiyya travelled in fourth position on the rail after jumping away well from barrier 2 before shouldering her way between the leading duo as the field headed into the home straight, charging away from her rivals to clear out for a utter dominating display.

A half-sister to dual Group 1 winner and successful Yulong based sire Grunt (O’Reilly), as well as the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes winner Zayydani (Savabeel), Madiyya was bred and raced by Brent and Cherry Taylor’s Trelawney Stud.

Impressive maiden victory at Sale for Madiyya, the half-sister to Grunt (pic).

Trelawney Stud has been experiencing a solid run of late, recently ending the Inglis Easter yearling sale as the second leading vendor (three or more sold), including selling a Per Incanto (USA) close relation to Grunt, Zayydani and Madiyya, with the colt knocked down to Yulong Investments for $650,000 as Lot 20.

Madiyya becomes the sixth individual winner from six to the races for Van Nistlerooy (USA) mare Ruqqaya (NZ), herself a half-sister to Group 1 WS Cox Plate winner Ocean Park (NZ). The current unraced two-year-old out of the mare is also in the Lindsay Park stable, with the filly from the first crop of Cambridge Stud’s Hello Youmzain (Fr) purchased from the Trelawney Stud draft at the 2024 Inglis Easter yearling sale for $400,000.

Waikato Stud's Super Seth was represented by dominant winner Madiyya

Set to embark on his sixth covering season at Waikato Stud later this year, Super Seth has had a great run so far this season producing Group 1 Australian Guineas winner Feroce, Group 1 Randwick Guineas winner Lineback as well as the Group 1 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes winner La Dorada.
