Spirit Of Boom Brings Up 30th Stakes Winner

Off the back of a last start 1200m victory at Eagle Farm, Tony Gollan’s 3yo gelding Boomtown Boss stepped up to 1400m for the first time in his career, taking out the Listed BRC Daybreak Lover to become the 30th stakes winner for Eureka Stud’s Spirit Of Boom.

Settling in a mid-field position inside the highly fancied Ciaron Maher trained Goodlucktome (Written Tycoon), apprentice jockey Emily Lang aboard Boomtown Boss headed back towards the inside rail as the field fanned into the home turn.

As Goodlucktome started to make his run down the outside, Boomtown Boss was making up late ground towards the inside, getting his head in front when it mattered to record his fourth win by a little over a half-length margin.

Recording his third winner of the Eagle Farm meeting, Queenland’s Champion trainer offered some high praise for the three-year-old.

“He's very much an immature horse mentally. But one thing he's got, which a lot of other horses don't have, is a stack of ability. He's got oodles of ability, and we're riding him to really get into his rhythm early and then trying to persevere that finish for the second half of the race,” said Gollan.

“So onwards and upwards to the Queensland Guineas. I gave him a break in the summer with Queensland Guineas aspirations and he's come back and he's showing me everything in spades at the moment.”

Purchased for $180,000 from the Magic Millions yearling sale draft of Eureka Stud by Gollan Racing and John Foote Bloodstock, Boomtown Boss is a full brother to the stakes performed Tick Tick Boom and Boomtown Lass, all out of the three-time-winning Red Dazzler mare Boomalicious from the extended family of Group 1 winners Zavite (Zabeel) and Land Of Plenty (Stratum).
