Ole Kirk unleashed another debut winner at Wyong on Thursday when Tiberius carried the Darby Racing colours to victory in a 1000m open maiden beating older rivals to become the tenth winner for his sire from just 17 starters!
Trained by Bjorn Baker and ridden by Jason Collett, Tiberius had shown good promise at the trials and ran up to expectation when working through along the inside to score a half length win.
“I think he sort of didn't know what to do when the gap presented itself, and then Jason sort of drove him through, so he's done a good job to run that other horse down,” said stable representative Glenn Lobb.
“I was a little bit worried sort of halfway down the straight that he just sort of wasn't coming quick enough, but he's got a bit of toughness in him and that kicked in late and he was able to get up. He's a nice horse.”
Tiberius was purchased for $160,000 from the Inglis Weanling Sale from the Ashleigh Thoroughbreds Dispersal and then re-offered at Magic Millions by Glenbeigh Farm where he was passed in and later found his way into Darby ownership with a large group of owners enjoying his debut win.
Tiberius is the first foal from So You Beauty, a winning half-sister by So You think to stakes-placed Fox Fighter from the family of Group winners I Am a Rippa, Murphy’s Blu Boy, Stampede and Thinkin’ Big.
Vinery Stud’s Ole Kirk is the leading first season sire by winenrs and earnings and is also running second on the overall 2YO Sires List behind only Snitzel.
