New SW Bivouac - Quality Filly Stays Undefeated

Kat Webster - Sunday March 30

Exciting Bivouac daughter Luana Miss upset raging favourite Yes Queen (Yes Yes Yes) to run out an impressive winner of the Listed WATC Supremacy Stakes (1000m) at Ascot yesterday becoming the third stakes-winner for her young sire.

Unbeaten from two starts, Luana Miss is one of a number of talented juveniles flying the flag for Darley's beautifully bred  Bivouac (Exceed And Excel x Dazzler by More Than Ready) and yesterday announced herself as a leading Karrakatta Plate prospect for trainer Trevor Andrews.

On an oppressive Perth afternoon Luana Miss paraded impeccably, and the filly had her share of supporters after a classy debut Ascot win in January.

However it was Dion Luciani's MM Crystal Slipper winner Yes Queen who started a hot favourite with punters following two explosive trials leading up to her return.

When the field jumped a fired up Yes Queen set a cracking pace out front with Maythisbetheone alongside her on the rail as the field ripped through the first half of the race.

Shaun O'Donnell  had Luana Miss nicely settled and poised to make her move. Turning for home Yes Queen burned off her opposition and came clear in the straight, but she tired late and couldn't hold out the powerful late challenge of the winner.

ging late with  with a perfectly timed run, Luana Miss won by three quarters of a length to a gallant Yes Queen, with Talkanco running on strongly for third.

Bred by Clive Atwell of Darling View Thoroughbreds, Luana  Miss was a $110,000 Magic Millions Perth purchase from the Western Breeders Alliance for her trainer and is the third winner from four to race from stakes-placed Little Bit Ditsy, a half-sister by Bel Esprit to stakes-winner Vienna Miss.

Luana Miss was a $110,000 Magic Millions Perth purchase.

Their dam Miss Doopsy by Bite The Bullet won eight races and another of her daughters produced a pair of Western Australian stakes-winners in Gangbuster and Let It Slip.

Miss Doopsy was full sister to Beat The Bullet, dam of champion filly and racemare Hollow Bullet, as well as stakes-winners Last Bullet and top juvenile Red Hot Mama.

This extremely consistent producing family now has another stakes-winning filly with great residual value in Luana Miss.

Her trainer was more than pleased with the win.

“ We knew there would be good speed and it worked out perfectly for her” said Andrews. “I thought the favourite would be too good for her today fitness wise, I haven't put that much work into her, she's still a bit soft. She came off the bit at the 500 and he had to give her a niggle but she has been too good.”

Shaun O'Donnell was full of praise for Luana Miss.

“She was awesome today” said O'Donnell.  “I knew I had it won at the corner.”

Little Bit Ditsy has a yearling filly by Farnan that passed in shy of her $150,000 reserve at MM Perth this year, but had no foal last year and was then covered by Playing God.

Luana Miss is the third stakes-winner for Bivouac joining Beiwacht and Intention.
