Golden Slipper Runners – 5 Generation Pedigrees for All

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 19

Are you a pedigree nerd? We’ve got something to make your day with five generation pedigrees for all the Slipper runners offering a mine of information on the 18 juveniles including emergencies that will line up at Rosehill on Saturday.

Click to go this page and select any runner to see it's five generation pedigree.

The 1994 Golden Slipper was won by Danzero, a colt from the first crop of a shuttle sire that would change the face of Australian racing and breeding in Danehill (USA).

He sired the following two Slipper winners Flying Spur (1995) and Merlene (1996), then followed up with Catbird in 1999 and Ha Ha in 2001.

Some 30 years on and Danehill is still making his presence felt as you can see in the table below.

Observations

  • Worth noting that the three horses with three lines of Danehill are all by Golden Slipper winner Farnan, who has a double cross of Danehill 3 x 4, so not surprising to note that a lot of his offspring will have the triple up.
  • Devil Night traces back along his tail female line to fifth dam Century Miss, who won the 1979 Golden Slipper.
  • Two horses, Bellazaine and Farcited, have a double cross of champion sire Redoute’s Choice and Marhoona has a double cross of that female family tracing back to her fourth dam Dancing Show.
  • Two runners trace back to VRC Oaks winners in their tail female line – West of Swindon goes back to fourth dam Taj Eclipse and Tempted to third dam Bulla Borghese.
  • Bellazaine has a pedigree that literally screams speed and is worth a look- 3 x 3 double cross of Elnadim, a brilliant G1 winning UK sprinter and Redoute’s Choice 4 x 3 – that’s a real concentration of Danzig blood and she traces tail female line to a half-sister to Golden Slipper winner Rory’s Jester.

  • On the flip side of that, West of Swindon has a pedigree that screams classic 3YO miler / derby potential, so whatever he’s doing now is raw talent. He’s one of two in the race for versatile shuttler Wootton Bassett, who like Danehill is a sire that can get fast two year-olds and classic horses.
