Is This Weir's Next Star?

Mark Smith - Sunday March 25

After finishing third at Rippon at his first two starts, Kings Will Dream (IRE) broke his maiden over a mile at Pontefract back in July last year.

A 7,500 gns purchase by Highflyer Bloodstock as an unraced 2yo at the 2016 Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale, Kings Will Dream(IRE)  made his next start half a world away in a benchmark 64 at Warrnambool on January 7.

He duly won that race and nothing has come close to him since. It was the start of an unbroken run of five wins culminating in a 5-length romp under Dean Yendell in Saturday's $300,000 Listed Mornington Cup (2400m).

It earned the four-year-old gelding a free ticket into the Group 1 Caulfield Cup.

Even his trainer Darren Weir has marvelled at the gelding's rate of improvement.

''He's had a great preparation and he was strong through the line over the 2400 metres which is great to see,'' Weir said

"He got a beautiful ride. I thought he would be in the one-one but he got a better spot really, which forced him out to that six-seven wide line going around them.

"The preparation has turned out great but when we went to the benchmark 60 we weren't thinking we were going to win a Mornington Cup we were thinking more like a (benchmark) 70.'

''You could (keep racing him) because there's no real reason to go to the paddock but its job done, he deserves his rest now and it's all about the spring now.''

A half-brother to four winners including the accomplished hurdler His Excellency (King's Best), Kings Will dream is out of the unraced Rodrigo de Triano mare Road Harbour who is a half-sister to French stakes-winner Dance Dreamer (Nureyev) out of the Grade II winner and Grade 1 placed mare Revasser (Riverman).

Kings Will Dream becomes the third stakes-winner by Shamardal's Group 1 Doncaster Racing Post Trophy winner Casamento  (pictured ) who relocated from Dalham Hall Stud to Ljungstorps Stud in Sweden for the 2018 breeding season.
