Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 17

There were five heats for 2YOs at Rosehill on Monday morning with winners including unraced youngsters by Wootton Bassett (GB), Lucky Vega (IRE) and Ole Kirk, while we had a second look at $3million I Am Invincible filly Ernaux and three winners have siblings for Inglis Easter.

The Chris Waller trained Ernaux didn’t win her heat, but she did run well sticking close to the winner Mednyi, who was given a tick over trial after winning for Anthony and Sam Freedman at Newcastle on March 1. They gapped the rest by six lengths and were easily the quickest of the 900m juvenile heats and went close to breaking 54 seconds.

Capitalist colt Mednyi was listed as a sale to James Harron Colts Partnership, but does run for his breeder Emirates Park and comes with a big pedigree as a half-brother to stakes-winner Ebhaar from the family of Group I winners Joliestar and Merchant Navy.

Emirates Park will offer a yearling colt by I Am Invincible from his dam Maroon Bay at Inglis Easter as Lot 51.

Bjorn Baker has already had success with young sire Lucky Vega (IRE) through his flying filly Within the Law and produced the Sponars to win at his first outing. Driven forward by Rachel King to lead, he was in front all the way and scored easily by two and a half lengths .

A $140,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Yulong, Sponars is a half-brother to a couple of winners from unraced import Isleham (USA), and unraced half-sister by Street Cry to stakes-winner Crittenden.

The Chris Waller trained Wootton Bassett (GB) colt Barking Mad showed good improvement from his first trial to his second, working home well under a hold for a narrow win.

A $625,000 Magic Millions purchase from Coolmore, Barking Mad is the second foal of the Waller trainer Group I winner Invincibella and her third foal is a yearling filly by Snitzel that Coolmore will offer at Inglis Easter as Lot 417.

Bjorn Baker and Jason Collett combined to win this heat with Ole Kirk gelding Tiberius, who was very professional in travelling smoothly to the lead and cruising along easily all the way to win by two and a half lengths with ears pricked.

Tiberius runs in the Darby Racing colours and is the first foal of So You Beauty, a winning So You Think mare from the family of Group winners I Am a Ripper, Murphy’s Blu Boy, Stampede and Thinkin’ Big.

Emirates Park as agent for Ashleigh Thoroughbreds will offer the second foal of So You Beauty, a colt by Captivant, at Inglis Easter as Lot 175.

Additional winner was: Telling (Graff).
