Grafterburners Puts Graff Top 5 - Dam Selling On Inglis Digital

Craig Tompson - Sunday March 16

Promising two-year-old colt Grafterburners put his sire Graff into the top five on the First Season Sires list with a dominant win in the $500,000 Aquis QTIS Jewel (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Coming off as close fourth to Rivellino in the $2million Inglis Millennium on February 8, Grafterburners went to the post as favourite and was given a good ride by Cejay Graham, settling midfield with good cover.

Coming widest into the straight, the colt copped a bit of buffering before hitting his stride and looked the obvious winner a good way from home.

Ultimately the Kelly Schweida trained youngster defeated Pink Vixen (Brave Smash) by a length with Betterlucknexttime (Zousain) third.

The win takes his record to two wins, one second, and a third from five starts with earnings of $489,000.

Grafterburners was a $70,000 purchase for his trainer from Canning Downs Stud at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and they will be selling Grafterburner’s dam Coralina as part of an un-reserved dispersal at the Inglis Digital March (Late) Sale where bidding opens on March 21.

Cora

lina is an unraced daughter of Dylan Thomas, and half-sister to Golden Slipper winner Overreach, herself the dam of Group II winner and multiple Group I placed Lofty Strike.

Grafterburners is an impressive flagbearer for his first season sire Graff, a winner of the Group III San Domenico Stakes and third in the Group I Golden Rose, who stands at Kitchwin Hills Stud.

Along with Grafterburners, he’s also had three placegetters from only five runners to date form his first crop.
