Blueblood Frankel Colt Bolts In

Tara Madgwick - Friday March 14

Entered for the Group I ATC Australian Derby next month, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Frankel colt Format showed the classic distance will be right up his alley when bolting away to win as he pleased over 2400m at Kembla on Friday.

Ridden by Tim Clark, Format have his older rivals something to chase and skipped right away to win by four and a half lengths and has two wins and a second from his past three starts over longer trips.

A $650,000 Magic Millions Weanling Sale purchase from Coolmore for Evergreen Rich, Format was the highest priced colt and second highest priced overall at that sale in 2022.

Format made $650,000 at the MM National Weanling Sale in 2022.

Format is a three-quarter brother to Group III winning stayers Harpo Marx and Forbearance as well as Group II placed Artistic Star, who are all by Frankel’s sire Galileo.

He is the fifth winner from six foals to race from Australian Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Nechita, who started her stud career in Ireland for Coolmore before returning to Australia in 2020 when in foal to Southern Hemisphere time to Frankel with Format the result of that mating.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock produced a colt by St Mark’s Basilica (Fr) last year and was then covered by Wootton Bassett (GB).
