Winning Debut for $1.4million Snitzel Filly

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 12

The open juvenile event at Sandown on Wednesday attracted a good field with cream rising to the top as $1.4million Snitzel filly Conscience edged out regally bred I Am Invincible filly Sisstainable to score a long head win.

Trained by Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, Conscience was allowed to settle and find her feet in the 1000m scamper by Blake Shinn, but when asked to get going she let down in impressive fashion.

She worked to the lead with 100m to run, but Sisstainable went with her to go down narrowly with both fillies appealing as horses to follow.

“She’s got a great attitude and handled the occasion well as with the race put back(due to the storm), she coped with everything really well,” said Blake Shinn.

“She settled lovely and displayed good ringcraft for her first time. She showed a good turn of foot and was going to win easily and then after having to make up the ground and with the track is a bit testing now, she toughed it out well and did a good job over the concluding stages.”

Conscience sold for $1.4million at Magic Millions and was the highest priced filly by Snitzel sold in 2024..

The most expensive filly by Snitzel sold in 2024, Conscience was a $1.4million Magic Millions purchase from Baramul Stud for TFI/Moody Racing Pty Ltd/James Harron Bloodstock and runs in the colours of part-owner John Camilleri.

She is a half-sister to Group III winner Espionage and is the fourth winner from four to race from In Times of War, a metro winning Street Cry (IRE) daughter of Group II winner and Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Military Rose.

Baramul Stud passed in a Zoustar colt from In Times of War at Magic Millions this year and she produced another filly by the same sire last spring.

Footnote: Runner-up Sisstainable is by I Am Invincible from Sunlight’s Group III winning full sister Sisstar.
