First Stakes-Winner for Wooded

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 10

Wootton Bassett (GB) already has his stripes as a sire of sires thanks to Almanzor (Fr), but one of his other Group I winning sons Wooded (IRE) was credited with his first stakes-winner overnight when Woodshauna took out the Listed Prix Monetenica (1300m) at Chantilly.

Trained by Francis – Henri Graffard, three year-old colt Woodshauna made it two wins from four starts when racing clear to win by a length and a half for Christophe Soumillon on the all weather surface.

Woodshauna was purchased by Al Shaqab Racing for 70,000 euros from the Arqana October Yearling Sale and is the first foal to race from stakes-placed Tosen Shauna, a half-sister by Alhebayeb to stakes-winner Maremmadiavola.

Wooded has had 47 runners in the Northern Hemisphere from his first crop there that have just turned three and 18 have won with Woodshauna the first to gain Black Type.

Wooded has shuttled to Swettenham Stud in Victoria for three seasons at a fee of $22,000 and his first Australian bred progeny are yearlings and have sold for up to $200,000.
