Another Debut Double for Red Hot Ole Kirk

Craig Tompson - Sunday March 9

Fresh off a Friday double, Vinery Stud’s red-hot Ole Kirk did it again on Saturday with two debut winners taking him to the top of both first season sire tables.

Ole Kirk

The first was the Peter Moody/Katherine Colemen trained filly Ole Dancer winning the Magic Millions SA 2YO Classic at Murray Bridge.

Ridden by Will Price and among the favourites for the race, she went back to near the tail of the field before coming with a powerful finish to beat Artistic Angel (Flying Artie) by 1.7 lengths with Dampen (Impending) third.

Ole Dancer was a $350,000 purchase for Moody Racing from the North draft at Magic Millions Gold Coast.

Bred by Neil Werrett who remains among her ownership, she is the third foal for Husson mare Dancers, from a strong family which includes Group I winners Redeiner, Snitzel and Private Eye.

Sadly at this point she’s also the last out of the mare who has been to Ole Kirk three times since where she has slipped, lost a foal after birth and missed last year.

The other winner was the Steve Wolfe trained Fiery Spark which won on debut at Bunbury in Western Australia.

Also going back to near last under Shaun McGruddy the gelding came hard to beat Hard Solo (All Too Hard) by a neck with Loves Talking (I'm All The Talk) third.

Fiery Spark was a $100,000 purchase for Commercial Bloodstock Services P/L (FBAA) from the Dawson Stud draft at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.

He’s the fourth foal of Domesday mare More Spark, a half-sister to stakes winner Sparks Fly.

More Spark has a yearling filly by Xtrvagant which sold for $32,500 at this year’s MM Perth, foaled a filly by State Of Rest last year and was served by Pierata.

Ole Kirk has now had six winners, including two of the best juveniles of the season in ill-fated Breeders Plate winner King Kirk and Magic Millions 2YO Classic heroine O’ Ole.

He also has the stakes placed Prestige Forever and is leading both the prizemoney list and winners list for first season sires in Australia.
