Godolphin - Street Boss - Exceed And Excel Double Up Into The Slipper

Craig Tompson - Saturday March 8

Godolphin and Street Boss launched into Golden Slipper calculations winning both Group II lead ups at Randwick - the Reisling Stakes and Todman Stakes on Saturday, with both out of Exceed And Excel mares.

The Reisling Stakes for the fillies was won by the James Cummings trained Tempted, getting her first, and deserved, stakes win after two excellent previous starts when an unlucky second in the Group II Widden Stakes followed by another unlucky effort in the Group I Blue Diamond.

Starting a heavily backed favourite, James McDonald took the filly to the rear from a wide draw and she produced a powerful finish to run them down, beating Marhoona (Snitzel) by a neck with Inkaruna (I Am Invincible) third.

“She was really good,” said McDonald.

“She's a proper genuine chance in two weeks' time for sure.

“She's a professional, she's very similar to her mum.

“Her mum was a little rocket, but she's got a better head on her shoulders, so that’ll take her a long way.”

Tempted is a half-sister to multiple Group winner Kalios (Medaglia D’Oro) out of Group II Magic Night Stakes and Listed Gimcrack Stakes winner Calliope.

Her third dam is VRC Oaks winner Bulla Borghese.

Calliope has a yearling colt, already named Zambales. She had no foal last season and was served by Anamoe.

The Todman Stakes, for the colts went to the Anthony and Sam Freedman trained Tentyris, coming off a huge performance when second in the Group One Blue Diamond.

Like Tempted, Nash Rawiller took him to the rear from a wide draw and brought him to the extreme outside down the straight where he overpowered them in an impressive display to beat Wodeton (Wootton Bassett) by ¾ of a length with Nepotism (Brutal) third.

“He's a beautiful colt,” said Rawiller.

“Look he's very unassuming, he just sort of does what he has to and as the race developed approaching the 250m, it felt like a track gallop for him winning the race, the way he started to chime into it.

“Obviously when the other Melbourne horse (Tycoon Star) drifted out in front of him it made it a little bit more awkward, but I loved his tenacity and the way he hit the line.”

Tentyris is the second foal and second winner for Deity, a metro winning half-sister by Exceed and Excel to stakes-winner Maternal from four time Group I winner Divine Madonna.

Deity was covered by Street Boss’s champion son Anamoe last spring so will produce a three-quarter sibling to Tentyris later this year.

Tentyris and Tempted are among seven stakes winners by Street Boss from a daughter of Exceed and Excel with the nick running at 13% SW to runner.

There are three yearlings in upcoming sales from the family of Tempted:
