Written Tycoon Does it Again for Bennett Racing!

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 8

Just a week after the former Bennett Racing flag-bearing Written Tycoon stallion Southport Tycoon was announced for Widden Stud Victoria, the Bennett Racing colours were again to the fore and this time on a two year -old filly by Written Tycoon that won the Group III VRC Ottawa Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and ridden by Thomas Stockdale, Military Tycoon ran seventh at her only previous start last spring in the Group III VRC Maribyrnong Plate behind Tycoon Star and was fresh and ready to fire.

She kicked away from her rivals to score a dominant two length win over last start Adelaide stakes-winner Gin Spirit.

"She's always shown that sort of ability and it unravelled for her during the Cup Carnival. She trialled up really nicely and Tom has done a good job,” said Ciaron Maher.

"There is hardly a horse in the stable that I have of Bennett Racing's that doesn't have some sort of ability.

"They do a very good job of selecting their horses and you can see they've got a huge crew of owners so it is fantastic.

"They just retired Southport Tycoon to stud so hopefully this is their next group horse."

A $200,000 Magic Millions purchase from Emirates Park (as agent for Merricks Station ) for Bennett Racing, Military Tycoon is the best of three winners from stakes-winning Universal Ruler mare Military Reign.

Merricks Station sold a yearling filly by The Autumn Sun from Military Reign at Inglis Premier last year for $120,000 to Simon Zahra Racing and the mare has a colt to follow by So You think and was covered by Alabama Express last spring.

Military Tycoon is the 73rd stakes-winner for Written Tycoon.
