Four days after the Super Seth / O’Reilly nick produced a Group One winner in Australian Guineas winner Feroce, it produced an impressive debut 2YO winner at Warwick Farm with the Waller/McDonald duo in Kilman.
It was one of those midweek 2YO races where the pre-race suggested the post-race would be more interesting given trial indicators, race potential etc.
There were six runners, four under $10, the roughest $15, and only two had raced before, so really nobody had a clue.
The post-race ultimately produced debutant Kilman as an impressive winner for Waikato Stud's second season sire Super Seth.
Taken back early by McDonald, last at one point, Kilman took a good while to get a grip on what was required to finish a race off and, it must be said, was ably assisted by the green antics of leader Grand Eagle.
He ultimately hit the line strongly to beat Grand Eagle (Farnan) by a length with Frostfire (Zoustar) third.
Kilman was a $360,000 purchase for Waller Racing/Mulcaster Bloodstock from the Waikato Stud draft at the MM Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
He’s out of Listed winner Thy, who finished 4th in the Group I Vinery Stud Stakes, a three-quarter sister to NZ Champion 3YO The Jewel, grand dam of The Chosen One.
Thy foaled a colt by Noverre last season and was served by Super Seth again.
