$26,000 Mare Produces $475,000 Colt for Queensland Breeder!

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 3

Lyndhurst Stud’s Jeff Kruger is a familiar fixture at Gold Coast sales, but had reason to get to Victoria this week for the sale of his Earthlight (IRE) colt from Sanadaat that was offered in the draft of Alma Vale Thoroughbreds draft and the trip proved well worthwhile when he sold for $475,000 on Monday.

$475,000 Earthlight (IRE) colt from Sanadaat.

From the second crop of Shamardal’s Group I winning 2YO Earthlight, the colt was bought by Yulong and is a half-brother to Group II placed filly Matisse from stakes-placed Not a Single Doubt mare Sanadaat.

Jeff Kruger purchased Sanadaat from the Three Bridges draft at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for just $26,000 when in foal to Earthlight and confessed to Breednet’s Maree McEwan that he had to go home and look up the stallion as he knew nothing about him when he bought the mare!

With 38 yearlings catalogued for MM Gold Coast March, Kruger elected to send the colt to be prepared for the Victorian sale by Verna Metcalfe and her team at Alma Vale Thoroughbreds and has certainly been well rewarded with the colt fetching some three times more than was expected.

Sanadaat comes from a great family being a grand-daughter of stakes-winner Unison from the Zedagal branch of the famed Summoned female family.

She produced a filly last spring on a late cover by Lyndhurst Stud’s Better Than Ready and was then given a year off so will be fresh and ready to go again later this year.

This colt is the highest priced yearling in Australia for Earthlight, who shuttled here for three seasons, but did not return in 2024. He has sired 26 winners in the Northern Hemisphere from his first crop and they are headed by one stakes-winner Daylight.
