Coolmore Buy into Slipper Contender Aylmerton

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 21
With two Golden Slipper winners already on the roster at Coolmore in Pierro and Vancouver, the global breeders have moved to secure a share in possibly another having confirmed their purchase of an interest in unbeaten Siyouni colt Aylmerton.

Aylmerton wins the G2 TodmanCoolmore has joined forces with John Camilleri's Fairway Thoroughbreds, Emmaroo Bloodstock, Ramsey Pastoral, Clairden Racing and Rob and Barbara McClure of Morning Rise Stud to purchase a stake in Aylmerton.

Woodpark Stud, who bred and race the colt in the care of Jean Dubois, remain in the ownership.

"Coolmore has put together a syndicate to take an interest in Aylmerton before the Slipper," said Coolmore's Sebastian Hutch.

"He has a very cosmopolitan pedigree, he is very good looking and he is extremely talented and he has won what is traditionally the key lead up to the Slipper in .01 of a second slower than the time Vancouver ran (in the Todman Stakes in 2015).

"He is doing this all one one preparation essentially and those sort of horses are very exciting. He is the sort of horse who can go on and be a stallion on our roster in due course."

Aylmerton has drawn eight in the Golden Slipper and will be ridden by Tommy Berry.

Berry has never seen Aylmerton in the flesh, let alone sat on him, but he says he’s watched his replays more than anyone on the planet, attempting to learn as much about his Golden Slipper mount and he said he’s hasn’t found a thing he doesn’t like.

"The thing that stands out to me the most about this colt is he’s strong to the line, very gutsy,” Berry told Clinton Payne at Racenet.

"When Ef Troop came back at him the other day he really stuck his head out and to me he looks like he’ll run further than 1200m, that’s a given I reckon.

"He’s got a lovely action, looks to travel really well, got a real nice style about him.

"He’s learned something each of the two times he’s gone to the races – made his run outside them then last time inside them after racing with horses around him and he’s had two weeks between his runs.

"He’s hard to line up against the other leading chances but one thing I’ve learned over the years is Todman Stakes form stacks up in the Golden Slipper and he’s won on a genuine soft so that’s another tick if it rains like they’re predicting.

"He looks to have the whole package.”
