Another High Class Trio Confirmed for Inglis Chairman's Sale

Media Release - Friday February 28

The three-time G1 placed mare Semana headlines the latest wave of new entries for the highly anticipated Inglis Chairman’s Sale.

The Ciaron Maher-trained Semana (Winning Rupert) finished 2nd, beaten just 0.3 lengths, in last year’s G1 Coolmore Classic behind multiple G1 winner Zougotcha.

She had five individual G1 winners in arrears that day in Kimochi, Tropical Squall, Hinged, Deny Knowledge and Madame Pommery and a total of 12 Stakes winners overall.

She also finished 2nd in last year’s G1 Tatt’s Tiara, behind four-time G1 winner and $23m earner Bella Nipotina and 3rd in the G1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes behind multiple G1 winners Zougotcha and Atishu, defeating G1 winners Ruthless Dame, Tropical Squall, Campionessa and Madame Pommery.

Semana, a seven-time winner of more than $1.6m in prizemoney, is also a G3 winner of the Triscay Stakes – defeating Olentia and C’est Magique – as well as finishing 4th in the G1 Winx Stakes behind multiple G1 winners Via Sistina, Zougotcha and Fangirl.

Maher’s Head of Bloodstock Will Bourne described Semana (pictured) as an “incredibly consistent mare’’ that was predominantly beaten by multiple G1 winners in G1 races.

“She was ever so close in many Group 1s, she has so much class and is such an amazing physical, which prospective buyers will see when inspecting her ahead of the Inglis Chairman’s Sale,’’ Bourne said.

“She’s got a lot of strength and was one mare that really enjoyed Ciaron’s alternative training environments which really switched her on and brought the best out of her.

“She’s a mare with the ‘X Factor’ who I have no doubt will develop into a stunning broodmare prospect for whoever is lucky enough to buy her in May.’’

Quality mares Grinzinger Belle (Shamexpress) and She Dances (Street Boss) are further exciting confirmed entries for the Chairman’s Sale.

Grinzinger Belle is a three-time Group winner – as both a 3YO and 4YO - of the G2 Let’s Elope Stakes, G3 Vanity Stakes and G3 Ladies Day Vase.

Her Let’s Elope victory was dominant, winning by four lengths, the biggest winning margin of the race over the past 25 years.

In doing so she defeated 10 individual Stakes winners in See You In Heaven, Alsephina, Lady Jones, Rumbled Again, Wollombi, Caste, Vibrant Sun, Legacies, Vagrant and Quintessa.

Grinzinger Belle is currently in work with trainer Danny O’Brien and has potential autumn carnival targets including the G1 All Star Mile, the G1 Coolmore Classic and the G1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes.

“She’s a lovely mare, a big, strong, powerful type with a bold racing style up on speed and is ultra consistent,’’ O’Brien said.

“She’s only four, she’s very sound, she’s got so much ability and I genuinely believe she’s got a couple of seasons at least left in her for sure as a racing prospect.’’

The 5YO mare She Dances, from the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman stable, is already a two-time Stakes winner of the G3 Northwood Plume Stakes and Listed Chautauqua Stakes, as well as being twice Group placed.

She is a seven-time winner overall of $787,565 and has significant racing and breeding upside.

A metro winner on debut as a 2YO, She Dances placed in the G2 Tobin Bronze Stakes as a 3YO behind subsequent G1 winner Royal Merchant.

She is from an active family, being a half sister to the G3 placed Bridal Waltz, while another half sibling realised $650,000 at last year’s Premier Yearling Sale and she has a full sister being offered at the Premier Sale at Oaklands this weekend.

“She’s a very good, fast race mare, a G3 winner and [majority owner] Gerry [Ryan] is at the point where he likes to race his horses with friends now rather than be a long-term breeder, so she’s there for genuine sale,’’ Rob Roulston, bloodstock advisor to owner Gerry Ryan, said.

“She’s a lovely sprinting mare, she’s medium sized, your typical sprinter with a nice big hind quarter, a nice roomy sort of filly, very correct, she’ll make a very nice broodmare.’’

Semana, Grinzinger Belle and She Dances joins the likes of hugely talented performers Mumbai Muse (Zoustar) and Dancing Alone (I Am Invincible), as well as proven producer Enbihaar (dam of top-class filly Too Darn Lizzie) as confirmed early entries to the Chairman’s Sale, which will be held at Riverside on Thursday May 8.
