Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 25

There were four heats for juveniles at Randwick on Monday including a couple of interesting winners, one unraced by Too Darn Hot (GB) and one bred on a nick that works for Tricolours Thoroughbreds, plus a commanding trial winner at Hawkesbury by first season sire Anders.

The Blake Ryan trained Anders gelding Contradiction might be headed to to Hong Kong off this easy trial victory.

Back at Randwick and the 1050m heat featured a couple of promising exposed juveniles in Space Rider and Apocalyptic with the winner unraced John Sargent trained Too Darn Hot (GB) filly Nullarbor Jane, who is two for two at the trials. She led all the way and kicked on well to win, while Apocalyptic was given a very easy time at her first trial back with Tommy Berry on board.

Nullarbor Jane was retained to race by her breeders and is the first foal of Lakkari, who comes from the Money Begets Money branch of the Gainesville (USA)  family that produced a new juvenile SW last Saturday in Gin Spirit and further back it features G1 winners Criterion and Comin’ Through.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable have sent Written By filly Enchanted Dream to the races once for a close third to Icarian Dream back in October and she looked good here racing on the pace albeit wide and kicking on the line to win by a length with the Anthony and Sam Freedman trained Zoustar colt Nielsen Park an eye-catching third.

Enchanted By runs for Tricolours Syndications and is bred on the same Written By x Snitzel cross as their two stakes-winners The Playwright and The Novelist with this filly also showing well above average talent.
