Darley Announce Death of Poet’s Voice

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 19
Group I QEII Stakes winner and prolific sire Poet's Voice (GB) suffered a fatal heart attack over the weekend at Dalham Hall Stud.

Poet's VoiceThe son of leading sire Dubawi was a superb racehorse, who broke his maiden by an astounding 10 lengths, before going on to win at Group I level at three.

Saeed bin Suroor, who trained Poet's Voice throughout his racing career said, "I am very sad to hear of the death of Poet's Voice and my condolences go to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed and everyone connected to him at Darley. He was a pleasure to train, always relaxed in his work and gave his best throughout his career. His victory in the QEII Stakes was very special indeed."

Since retiring to stud, Poet's Voice has provided a consistent stream of winners and last year his outstanding total of 29 juvenile winners could only be bettered by his own outstanding sire among British stallions.

Poet's Voice shuttled to Australia for three seasons with his best locally bred horse being Group II winner Viridine.

Sam Bullard, Director of stallions, said, "Poet's Voice has been a great servant and will be greatly missed by the team here at Dalham Hall Stud. "He has been a reliable source of winners for breeders and he enjoyed a wonderful year in 2017 with his two-year-olds and of course Poet's Word, who we hope will continue to fly the flag for his sire this year."

Stud Director Liam O'Rourke said, "It is sad to lose such a lovely stallion who, as a homebred, embodied all of what we wish to achieve – a remarkably good-looking individual, by our own sire and grandsire, G1 winner in the Godolphin blue silks and a credit to all those associated with him."
