Treasurethe Moment's Brilliant Return

Craig Tompson - Saturday February 22

VRC Oaks winner Treasurethe Moment returned in stunning form with an easy win first-up in the Group II Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday, the first of a four start Australian Oaks tilt.

Giving away weight to all of her opposition under the set weights and penalties scale, and looking decidedly soft in the parade, it didn’t deter punters, backing her from $3.40 to $2.70 and there was never a doubt of collecting.

Showing good gate speed, Damian Lane settled her second off leader, Too Darn Lizzie and took over strongly in the straight with the Matt Laurie trained daughter of Alabama Express beating Jenni The Fox (Too Darn Hot) by a length with Too Darn Lizzie (Too Darn Hot) third.

The win takes her record to six wins and two seconds from eight starts with earnings of $1,235,262.

“It was painless viewing wasn’t it,” said Laurie.

“To do that with top weight first-up over 1400m, its very exciting

“She hasn’t fully filled out in her frame by any means. She’s developed into the perfect racehorse.”

“She’s a class horse,” said Lane.

“She’s definitely sharpened up since last prep. Never felt like getting beat.”

The Yulong owned three-year-old is the second winner from as many to race for the Street Cry (IRE) mare Draconic Treasure (USA), whose dam Hazy Glow (Invincible Spirit) is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Rich Tapestry (Holy Roman Emperor), who was runner-up in the Golden Shaheen.

Treasurethe Moment is the final foal of Draconic Treasure (USA), who died in 2022.

She will run next in the Group II Kewney Stakes (1600m) on March 8 before heading to Sydney for the group I Vinery and Australian Oaks.
