Stakes Goals Now For Promising Pride Of Dubai Filly

Craig Tompson - Friday February 21

Promising Pride Of Dubai filly Sun ‘N’ Sand will tackle stakes grade at her next start after winning the Casino Canberra Canberra Guineas Preview at Canberra on Friday.

Sun 'N' Sand as a yearling

Having won her first two starts in her first preparation, Sun ‘N’ Sand had resumed with a second at the Sapphire Coast but was much better second-up pulling out plenty down the straight to win narrowly but impressively.

Ridden by Alysha Collett, the Barb Joseph & Paul & Matt Jones trained filly defeated Xcessive Force (Brutal) by a neck with Buenos (D'argento) third.

The win takes her record to three wins and a second from four starts with earnings of $71,750.

She was a $40,000 buy for Jospeh and Jones Racing from Kitchwin Hills at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, having originally been passed in when going through the ring.

“Neil Werrett and Max Whitby bred her. Put her through a sale and couldn’t sell her, we bought her, they stayed in for halves,” said Barb Joseph.

While the race is a lead up for the Listed Canberra Guineas in 16 days, she may also be kept for the G3 Keith Nolan Classic (1600m) on March 14.

“We mightn’t be here in two weeks,” said Joseph.

“We might go to the one at Kembla for fillies. We’ll nominate and see what happens.

“Right form the start I said this hose is very much like Ain’t Seen Nothin’.

“Her work here on Tuesday was unbelievable.”

“I really like her,” said Collett.

“I think she’s going to keep progressing. The further she gets the better she’s going to go.”

Sun ‘N’ Sand is the fourth foal of Redoute’s Choice mare She’s A Rainbow, a daughter of multiple stakes place Music Review (Singspiel), a mare who’s best form was over 2400m.

She’s a Rainbow has a Star Turn yearling, slipped to the same sire last year and was served by Headwater.
