Star mares confirmed among early entries for Chairman's Sale

Media Release - Friday February 21

Entries for the 2025 Inglis Chairman’s Sale – a world class boutique auction for elite breeding stock – are now open.

The Inglis Chairman’s Sale has rapidly developed into one of the most lucrative and exciting bloodstock auctions on the global sales calendar.

Its unique structure – a select catalogue of the best race fillies and breeding stock of the year offered for sale under lights at an elegant twilight ‘cocktail party’ at Riverside – has seen vendors rewarded with extraordinary results in recent years.

Such has been its success, the average of the top 25% of last year’s Chairman’s Sale was an incredible $1,418,333 (more than double that of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale) while the average of the top 50% of sold lots was $959,833, again more than double its nearest competitor.

In 2024 fillies and mares off the track averaged a whopping $832,060.

There have been countless extraordinary results at recent renewals of the Chairman’s Sale, highlighted by the likes of Nimalee ($3.6m), Montefilia ($3.4m), She’s Extreme ($3.4m), Tutta La Vita ($3.2m), Shout The Bar ($2.7m), Celebrity Queen ($2.5m), Icebath ($2.3m), Maastricht ($2.25m), Kimochi ($2.2m), In Her Time ($2.2m), Srikandi ($2m) etc.

This year’s format will mirror that of recent years – a late afternoon start at Riverside on Thursday May 8 with a ‘Where Elegance Meets Excellence’ theme, the best breeding stock offered to a world class buying bench that in recent years has included investors from right across Australia, as well as a huge range of international buyers.

Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch is proud of what the Chairman’s Sale has become and is excited about what is to come in 2025.

“It’s a special night – one that people really enjoy – and ultimately it’s become a celebration of the careers of some of the best race fillies and mares of recent past,” Hutch said.

“The market has willingly embraced the format and we’ve been able to develop it progressively year after year into a sale that people feel they must be involved in.

“I’ve been to bloodstock sales around the world and there is nothing that comes close to the Chairman’s Sale, it is just a fantastic occasion and will again be this year.

“We are fielding a huge amount of interest in the sale and are working strategically to consolidate a catalogue that will have anyone and everyone very excited.”

With entries for the 2025 Chairman’s Sale now open, hugely talented performers Mumbai Muse (Zoustar) and Dancing Alone (I Am Invincible), as well as proven producer Enbihaar (dam of top-class filly Too Darn Lizzie) are amongst the most appealing mares already committed to the sale.

Trained by Michael Freedman and raced by a syndicate including Woppitt Bloodstock, Robert McClure, Kia Ora Stud and Craig Pickford, Mumbai Muse is a winner of the G3 Red Roses Stakes and Listed Brian Crowley Stakes, defeating the likes of Stefi Magnetica, Zardozi, Autumn Ballet, Lady Laguna, Joliestar, Private Eye, Lady Of Camelot, Think About It etc during her career.

A $525,000 Inglis Easter yearling sale graduate, Mumbai Muse is a sibling to three black type performers and hails from a quality international family that includes leading US sire Speightstown.

“As a yearling she was just such a great type, very typical of the Zoustars, a beautiful athletic filly who developed into a strong and talented race filly and mare,’’ Freedman said.

“She was a G1 standard mare, I have no doubt about that, we just never saw the best of her for differing reasons but I’m sure she’ll develop into a beautiful broodmare, she has all the right attributes to do so.’’

Blessed with exceptional speed, Dancing Alone won six of her 10 career starts and was Group placed when finishing 3rd to four-time Group winner Queen Of The Ball at Flemington during Melbourne Cup Week.

From a family synonymous with elite Australasian speed, she is a half sister to star 3YO Growing Empire and closely related to the likes of Terravista, Tiger Tees and Champion 2YO Il Quello Veloce.

Dancing Alone’s trainer Bryce Heys described the mare as “a dream prospect’’.

“Physically she’s as good as you’ll ever get, she really typifies an Easter yearling and on top of that and most importantly she delivered on the track in terms of her ability and winning races,’’ Heys said.

“She was a pleasure to have around the stables. She was super competitive on the track but outside of that was just an absolute darling of a filly, they don’t come with a nicer demeanour than she possesses.

“That’s the perfect combination and what the market is looking for – physically perfect, competitive and talented but with a kind nature. I have no doubt in my mind she’ll leave a gorgeous foal, she hasn’t been taxed on the racetrack, she’s what everyone wants.’’

A day after the Chairman’s Sale the Inglis Broodmare Sales Series continues with the Australian Broodmare Sale, again at Riverside on Friday May 9.

The Inglis Broodmare Sales Series attracts all the major buyers from across Australia and beyond.
