Juvenile Trial Watch - Three States

Craig Tompson - Monday February 17

Some interesting two-year-old trials around Australia on Monday with a couple of first season sires showing up, a high priced Horses In Training graduate and a pointer to one selling at Magic Millions Perth this week.

At Beaudesert the Paul Shailer trained Lipizzaner made good progress off his first trial fifth, winning heat four comfortably under Michel Rodd.

Lipizzaner was the second highest priced lot at last year’s Magic Millions Horses In Training Sale, making $500,000 to his trainer from the Baramul Stud draft.

He’s by Snitzel out of Graciousness, a winning Street Cry half-sister to four stakes winners including Casino Prince, and she has left two stakes winners herself thus far – Vienna Princess, also by Snitzel, and this season’s Group II Danehill Stakes winner First Settler (Written Tycoon).

Shailer produced another two-year-old winner later in the morning by Newhaven Park’s first season sire Cool Aza Beel.

Kahlua Girl produced her best of three trials, winning narrowly but in the fastest time of the morning for the 900m heats.

She was a $40,000 buy for Shailer Racing/Julian Blaxland Bloodstock (FBAA)/High Calibre Racing from Newhaven Park at Magic Millions Gold Coast.

Kahlua Girl is out of Flying Spur mare Down The Hatch, a daughter of Group II winner Toast Of The Coast, and a half-sister to the dam of Group I winner Super Seth and Group II winner Wild Planet.

Over in the west at the Belmont trials, the Neville Parnham trained Playing God filly Cawarra again showed talent being sent to the line to win her heat by over two lengths.

It was her third trial, having finished second at the previous wo.

She’s the first foal of Written Tycoon mare Lady Ciego, a daughter of Group III WATC Gimcrack Stakes winner Chantski and cost her trainer $130,000 at Magic Millions Perth from the Yarradale Stud draft.

Yarradale are offering her half-brother by Gingerbread Man as Lot 243 at this week’s Perth Yearling Sale.

In Victoria it was Darley’s first season sire Earthlight producing the winner at Benalla with the Lindsay Park trained Galaxy Song having his third trial.

He is the fourth foal of Testa Rossa mare Syzygy Blossom, a granddaughter of the blue hen Twiglet, dam of Hong Kong champion Fairy King Prawn and Group I winning sprinter Easy Rocking.

Galaxy Song was a $36,000 buy for the astute Merric Staunton from Bhima Stud at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale and races in the ownership of Hong Kong based Price Bloodstock so his future may well be tied to that part of the world.
