G3 Winner for Admire Mars

Media Release - Monday February 17

A month after Arrowfield Stud shuttler Admire Mars (Jpn) logged his first stakeswinner, Namura Clara over 1400 metres at Chukyo, he has added his first Group winner Embroidery, who landed Saturday’s Group III Tokyo Daily Hai Queen Cup 1600m in very fast time.

A home-bred for Northern Farm, Embroidery made it look easy, settling comfortably in 2nd spot, moving smoothly into the lead 400 metres out and pulling away for a 2.5 length victory in 1:32.2. That’s a record time for the race which serves as a trial for the Hanshin Oka Sho G1 (Japanese 1000 Guineas) on 13 April.

Jockey Christophe Lemaire’s translated post-race comments, posted on social media by @netkeiba, were, “I was able to run at a good pace, and I’m glad I was able to get that position. She can maintain a good pace for a long time, and after accelerating, she can keep that speed all the way to the finish line. That’s what’s good about this horse. I think she can compete at a higher level.”

Embroidery is the best of two winners left by Listed winner Rottenmeier (by French Deputy’s son Kurofune), from the family of Horse of the Year Buena Vista & Champion 2YO Filly Joie de Vivre.

Admire Mars (Jpn) has shuttled to Arrowfield for four seasons at a fee of $22,000.

She and Namura Clara, who won the Chukyo Kobai S. 1400m LR on 18 January, were both among the 16 first-crop 2YO winners that launched Admire Mars’s Japanese stud career last year. They have now propelled him into the leading group of Second Season Sires, ahead of Japan’s 3YO Spring Classics.
