Debut 2YO Winner and New Stakes Horse for Brave Smash

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 16

Yarraman Park’s young sire Brave Smash (Jpn) has had a good weekend with a couple of smart juveniles stepping out on debut in Melbourne and in Queensland, while his flagship runner Kimochi is getting ready for her autumn campaign with a trial appearance scheduled for this week.

The Listed VRC Talindert Stakes at Flemington produced a dead heat result with Shining Smile and Tentyris sharing the win, but making an eye-catching debut for third was the Danny O’Brien trained colt Brave Design, who finished on well for third in the field of 10 starters with James McDonald in the saddle.

Brave Design was a $150,000 Magic Millions purchase from Yarraman Park.

A $150,000 Magic Millions purchase for his trainer from the Yarraman Park draft, Brave Design is from metro winning Stratum mare Our Design, a half-sister to stakes-winner Tales of Fashion from a quality European female family, so there is plenty of depth to suggest he may be one to follow out of the race.

On Sunday, Brave Smash sired talented filly Pink Vixen to bolt in on debut at Toowoomba in the 1000m juvenile maiden for the Kevin Kemp stable beating the favourite Sweet Hesitation.

A modest $25,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale purchase for her trainer from the Oaklands Stud draft, Pink Vixen is the first winner for metro winning Falvelon mare Emsie is a Star.

Brave Smash’s star performer Kimochi finished her spring carnival with a win in the Group I MRC Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and the Gary Portelli trained mare is gearing up for more stakes success in 2025.
