Closer Look at Written Tycoon

Tara Madgwick - Friday February 14

Our story on Thursday highlighting the impressive maiden win of Written Tycoon filly Written Scandal sparked plenty of interest given she comes from the so called ‘golden crop’ conceived at Arrowfield Stud by her now Yulong based champion sire, so we thought it might be interesting to go back and take a closer look at how his career has unfolded.

Few champion stallions anywhere in the world have had the commercial ups and downs of Written Tycoon, who has been ‘fee on application’ for his past two seasons at Yulong in Victoria with his once impeccable fertility now in decline resulting in much smaller mare books in 2023 and 2024.

Written Tycoon is enjoying the twilight years at Yulong.

The table below charts his career in terms of the mares covered / service fees and the resulting SW’s produced in each crop with the 2021 foal crop (3YO’s) clearly the best to date with a SW to runner strike rate of 9.5% in comparison to his lifetime strike rate of 5.7%.

Given the likelihood of an ever-diminishing opportunity to purchase his stock, Written Tycoon yearlings have been in strong demand at sales so far this year and he had his highest priced yearlings ever at Magic Millions with Yulong selling a filly from Away Game and a colt from In Her Time for $1.8million each.

Written Tycoon has 22 for Inglis Premier – all bar three offered by Yulong - and 10 for Inglis Easter with five from Yulong.
