More Than One Way to Skin a Cat

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 11

When racehorse syndication businesses take a punt on a filly there is more than one way for shareholders to make money from the exercise as enhancement of the investment can come via pedigree or the racetrack and in the case of this winner on Tuesday it has come in both ways.

Adventure Seeker breaks the maiden at Goulburn - Bradley Photography

The Champion Thoroughbreds colours were carried to victory in a pretty average 1300m maiden on a heavy track at Goulburn on Tuesday by the Danielle Seib trained filly Adventure Seeker.

A three year-old by The Autumn Sun, Adventure Seeker raced three times last year for a second at Moruya and was resuming from a spell with punters warming to her prospects on her home track with Jean Van Overmeire to ride.

Adventure Seeker got the job done in scoring by over a length, but the win on her resume is not the most exciting thing going on with this filly.

Withdrawn from the Magic Millions Book 2 Yearling Sale in 2023, she was later bought privately from her breeder Zhongli Thoroughbreds by Champion Thoroughbreds and then the following year the next foal from her dam Our Belisa was offered at Inglis Classic and was quickly recognized as something special.

North England is the half-brother to Adventure Seeker - image Steve Hart

A colt by first crop sire Farnan, he made $280,000 when snapped up by  China Horse Club / Newgate Bloodstock / Go Bloodstock / Trilogy as a sire prospect and is now North England, who won the $1million ATC Golden Gift last year and is now being touted as a serious Golden Slipper prospect by his trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

His sidestep away from a path to the $2million Inglis Millennium and towards the Golden Slipper has been well documented with this barrier trial last week the catalyst for a change in thinking on the talented colt.

One thing is for certain, all of the owners involved in Adventure Seeker will be watching the progress of North England very closely… a winning half-sister to a Golden Slipper winner is a valuable commodity on the broodmare market!
