Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 11

Godolphin heavy hitters Broadsiding and Golden Mile, back as a gelding from a failed attempt at stud, were heat winners at Warwick Farm on Tuesday morning, but our interest was in the juveniles with Golden Slipper favourite Wodeton out to enjoy a leisurely tick over trial, while another unraced son of Wootton Bassett (GB) also caught the eye.

First of the juvenile heats over 790m was also the quickest with newly gelded Gambler again producing a brilliant effort with the Peter Snowden trained son of Capitalist putting a gap on his rivals at the finish to win by three lengths. Also keep a little eye on unraced Frankel filly Enviable, having a very quiet first trial for the Waller stable with James McDonald on board, has the pedigree to suggest she will be a speedier style of Frankel.

Gambler had one start in the spring when unplaced in the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial, but has returned a different horse since being gelded. He is a half-brother to three winners headed by stakes-placed Nitrous and is from Group II placed Flamboyant Lass, a sister to Group III winner Attention. He might not be a sire prospect anymore for the James Harron Bloodstock partners, but he’s going to look very appealing to Hong Kong.

Wodeton went around in the next heat and was never out of second gear in a contest won by the Marc Conners trained Anders filly Infant Warrior, who was having her second trial and did everything right. Farnan colt Nashville Jack found the line well for second and has had a good education with four trials, two last year and two this year and does look ready to go racing and be competitive.

A modest $30,000 Inglis Classic purchase for her trainer, Infant Warrior is a half-sister to a winner f rom a winning half-sister by Charge Forward to stakes-winner Vinland.

The John O’Shea and Tom Charlton trained Wootton Bassett (GB) colt Napoleonic looked nice at his first trial last month closing off late for fourth and did similar this time albeit with a bit more intent and got home to win by ahead for Kerrin McEvoy.

A $360,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Widden Stud for Dean Hawthorne that runs for Jonathan Munz, Napoleonic is a half-brother to six winners including Group III winner Ready Set Sail and stakes-placed Set the Sails being from good producer Jolie Brise, whose yearling filly by Zousain will be offered at Inglis Easter as Lot 4 by Cannon Hayes Stud.
