Is He the Next Stakes Winner for Too Darn Hot?

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 10

Fresh from siring two new stakes-winners last Saturday in Rivellino and Arabian Summer, Too Darn Hot (GB) had an impressive three year-old winner at Caulfield on Monday that had future SW written all over him.

The most expensive colt from the first crop of Too Darn Hot, the Ciaron Maher trained Shanwah broke his maiden last start at Mornington over 1600m and looked even better again when bolting in to win the Benchmark 64 event over 1800m with Blake Shinn on board.

“Clearly he’s taken that next step,” said stable representative Jack Turnbull.

“Given they way he has just run I’m sure that will rate pretty well and we’ve got several options coming up. The Autumn Classic (G2)  is in 12 days, but that may be a bit sharp and the Alister Clark (G2) is in about a month, so we’ll have a talk to Kevin (owner Kevin Payne) and Ciaron and Blake and make a plan, but he’s won pretty smartly.”

Shanwah was a $750,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase.

Shanwah was a $750,000 purchase for Cameron Cooke Bloodstock from the Trelawney Stud draft at NZB Karaka Book 1.

Alas for the owners, gelding was required after his two start initial preparation, however it’s obviously brought something to the table and he has now won two of six starts earning nearly $80,000 with the promise of more to come.

Shanwah is a half-brother to Group II winner Excelida, out of Iffraaj mare Lady Sayyida, a half-sister to the Champion racehorse and Cox Plate winning sire Ocean Park and also to the dam of Group I winner and sire Grunt and Group II winner Zayydani

His half-brother by Per Incanto is being offered by Trelawney at Inglis Easter as Lot 20.
