Tassie Star Stays Unbeaten At Home

Craig Tompson - Friday February 7

Wordsmith filly Geegees Mistruth kept her unbeaten Tasmanian record intact when relishing the return to her home state to win the Kevin Sharkie Mystic Journey Stakes (G3) on Friday.

Geegees Mistruth was Tasmanian’s best two-year-old last season winning four from four, including two stakes races and in the spring campaigned on the mainland with a Thousand Guineas tilt.

She proved herself among the upper tier of fillies in the process with placings in the Scarborough Stakes (G3) and Thousand Guineas Prelude (G2) during a four start preparation.

She went to the post for her first start this campaign as the short-priced favourite and Anthony Darmanin stalked the leaders before taking control into the straight and proving a class above with the Stuart Gandy trained filly beating Dazzling Lucy (Star Witness) by two lengths with In Her Stride (Stratum Star) third.

The win takes her record to five wins, two seconds, and a third from 10 starts with earnings of $426,925.

A homebred for Elizabeth Geard Racing, Geegees Mistruth has banked $426,925 from her five wins.

That’s a handy return on the mere $250 it cost to secure her dam Miss Mana at the 2013 Inglis Great Southern Bloodstock Sale.

Geegees Mistruth is the best of three winners from as many foals for the Jetball mare Miss Mana.

Her two-year-old, Geegees Missile, a full-sister to Geegees Mistruth has had three starts in Hobart for three placings since December 15.

She foaled a full brother last season and not surprisingly returned to Wordsmith again.
