Winning Hat-Trick for Hellbent 3YO

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 5

Hellbent has had a strong start to 2025 reeling off 22 winners since New Year’s Day and among them is progressive three year-old Heaving, who made it three wins on the trot when saluting at Sandown on Wednesday.

Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, Heaving broke his maiden at his third start at Bairnsdale back in September before heading for a spell and after winning first up at Seymour last month was able to keep the ball rolling with a metropolitan success.

Ridden by an in-form Blake Shinn, Heaving was slowly away and ended up further back than he would have liked, but dashed up late with a neat change of gear to win the 1200m Benchmark 64 event by half a length.

Heaving was a $100,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Sledmere Stud for Roll The Dice Racing / Rogers Bloodstock / Julian Blaxland Bloodstock / Anthony Freedman Racing and was a successful pinhook having been bought originally from Torryburn Stud at the Inglis Weanling Sale for $40,000.

“His win at Seymour suggested he had metropolitan ability and it’s good to see him come here and get the result,” said Blake Shinn.

Heaving has the tidy record of three wins and two seconds from five starts with earnings topping $73,000.

He is the first living foal of good Sydney metro winner Heartlings, a half-sister to Group II winning $1.7million earner Hope in Your Heart and Group III placed Rising Wind.

Hellbent is the most represented sire at Inglis Classic with 30 yearlings catalogued.
