Blue Diamond Tilt For The Playwright

Breednet - Tuesday February 4

Tricolours’ Racing boss James Moss has revealed tough Written By filly The Playwright is likely to make it three starts in three states with a Blue Diamond tilt in a wide ranging chat on the Tara Talks Racing podcast, including some of the theories behind a track record of finding cheap yearlings that become stakes winners.

James Moss from Tricolours Racing collecting the Widden Stakes trophy

The Playwright won last weekend’s Group III Arrowfield Widden Stakes, her second win in four starts and the Waterhouse/Bott stable have reported she has pulled up well enough  for a Blue Diamond start to be on the agenda.

“She’s a tough robust filly,” said Moss.

“She’s pulled up really well. We haven’t committed to anything but at this stage it’s probably likely she goes down for the Blue Diamond in two weeks time.

“She deserves her chance on the Blue Diamond I think. The Caulfield track will suit her. The layout tends to favour horses up on the speed that can make their own luck.

The Playwright was a $60,000 buy for Tricolours from the Newhaven Park draft in Book Two at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale and is now a stakes winning filly with over $700,000 in the bank.

That includes a fourth placing in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, collecting the lion’s share of the Ladies Bonus in the process.

The filly becomes the latest in a line of successful buys in book two sessions for outstanding results for Tricolours.

In 2017, Moss paid $120,000 in Session Two for a So You Think filly who raced as Fasika which subsequently became a stakes winner, collecting over $700,000 in prizemoney before being sold off the track for $920,000.

Another, Ballistic Lover was an $80,000 buy at Magic Millions Book Two from Newgate and after winning two stakes races and over $400,000 in prizemoney was sold at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $1million.

They are some of the results of a buying process Moss has in place with vet Dr Chris Lawlor and bloodstock agent Rick Connolly.

It’s all part of a wide ranging and thoroughly interesting chat on the Tara Talks Racing podcast. Well worth a listen.
