High Chaparral Son Secured for Highview

Media Release - Monday March 12

Wrote's long-term New Zealand future is guaranteed following a successful move by Highview Stud.

WroteThe Irish-bred stallion was well-received by breeders in his first season, prompting farm principal Brent Gillovic to purchase the son of High Chaparral outright.

"After protracted negotiations we have managed to buy him outright," he said.

"We've bought him along with Peter Yip of the Hong Kong Breeders' Club and Duncan Grimley, a good friend of mine in Australia.

"There will be 48 shares and we'll sell around a dozen and keep the rest for ourselves.

"Wrote oozes quality, he's a beautiful horse with a great pedigree as a Gr.1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner by High Chaparral out of a fantastic female family tracing directly to the blue hen mare Special.

"He covered 85 mares in his first season and we can't wait to see his foals in the spring."

The winner of three of his 11 starts and Group placed three times, Wrote shuttled from Northwest Stud in Ocala, Florida last season.

"He was purchased by a Venezuelan group in a racing package from Coolmore and in America he's already had a couple of two-year-old winners and a stakes performer from a handful of runners," Gillovic said.

"Personally, I didn't think he was suited to shuttling. He arrived here very light in condition, but he has put on 50kg since the season and he's looking absolutely magnificent now."

The purchase of Wrote completed an eventful week for the stud.

"We had a fire in the main barn and there were 17 racehorses in there. We were very, very lucky to get them all out by the skin of our teeth," Gillovic said. – NZ Racing Desk.
