Paul Joice’s top three to follow from Randwick Saturday August 5

Paul Joice - Monday August 7

My horses to follow from Randwick on Saturday are obvious but I want to back winners going forward and I'm confident these three will be winning again.

SHOGUN SUN
The Queenslander was supposed to only be making up the numbers in the opening event with a couple of boom Sydneysiders carrying 'superior' form into the race. But the best horse won the race – and won it easily. Christian Reith rode a patient race, but the three-year-old son of Written Tycoon had work to do and took a narrow split before reeling off a final 200m split of 11.62 seconds in securing his 1-1/4 lengths win. That was the fastest final split of the meeting! It wasn't a fluke and the favourite Addictive Nature was solid in defeat. But Shogun Sun was better than him.
Career record (6:2-2-0).
Race to look for – Any 3YO event 1200-1400m

WAHNG WAH
Wahng Wah doesn't want a heavy track but give her anything else and she will be competitive. Added a string to her bow on Saturday when a barnstorming winner over 1800m – her first try at that distance. The three favoured runners had enjoyed cosy on-pace runs so were entitled to give a kick, but Kris Lees' mare had them covered 100m from home and went right on with the job. I'd be shocked on the back of that win if she didn't eat up 2000m so Lees will have a lot more options now with a mare that can run a trip but still produce a turn of foot. More wins in store.
Career record (18:5-1-1).
Race to look for – Benchmark 76-82 (1800m-2000m)

INVINCIBLE GEM
Stablemate and race favourite Le Romain endured a tough run in Saturday's Missile Stakes but I doubt he would have had an answer to the finishing burst of Invincible Gem regardless. She's the real deal and I'm tipping she'll bag at least one Group I during the spring. The progress she made last campaign was staggering and backed-up her impressive trial form this time in with a classy first-up victory. Yes she had the right run and Corey Brown gave her a peach, but she had some tough, proven weight-for-age sprinters ahead of her – and she made them look second rate.
Career record (10:5-3-0).
Race to look for – Any Group race up to 1600m
