Go Racing Win Australian Day Cup with Tajanis

The familiar Go Racing colours were carried to victory at Warwick Farm on Monday by progressive imported stayer Tajanis (IRE), who continued his upward trajectory with a three quarter length win in the $200,000 Listed ATC Australia Day Cup (2400m).

A five year-old gelding by Epsom Derby winner Australia, the Chris Waller trained Tajanis put the writing on the wall last start when he defeated hot favourite Gilded Water (GB) to win at Rosehill over 2400m and he was able to repeat the effort at his first attempt in Black Type company.

Ridden by Zac Lloyd, Tajanis powered to the line, relishing the mile and a half in taking his overall record to four wins and five placings from 16 starts.

Tajanis was bought by Go Racing for 40,000 guineas from the 2023 Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale where he was offered as a last start winner of a maiden at Yarmouth at his fifth start.

Bred by Godolphin, he is a half-brother to stakes-winner Jabaara and is the second stakes-winner among six winners from stakes-placed Dubawi mare Baheeja, a daughter of stakes-winner Hasty Words.

Tajanis is the 44th stakes-winner for Galileo stallion Australia, who stands at Coolmore at a fee of €10,000.
