New Stakes Winner for Street Boss

Mark Smith - Sunday March 11

A 1-2 for the locals in Sunday's Listed National Sprint (1400m) at Canberra as the toothless tiger Tougherthantherest nosed out Coolring and the fast-finishing Snippets Land to earn a maiden stakes success.

Trained by Keith Dryden and Scott Collings, Tougherthantherest finished hard up against the fence under hard riding from Mathew Cahill to defeat Cooling (Sebring) by a short-head with Snippets Land (Snippetson) a short-neck back in third.

Only once further back than third in his eleven starts, the 4yo gelding advanced his record to 5 wins, 1 second and 4 thirds with earnings of $161,140.

Collings said the son of Street Boss is a stable favourite.

"He's only got about two teeth on the bottom, he hasn't got many that's for sure," Collings told Sky Racing.
"He has just got better as he goes. He is very tough and Matty rode him a treat today, a drop in the weights, it's just fantastic.

"Keith just pokes away with him, he's a horse that likes to race on the fresh side and he just loves racing."

A son of Darley Stud's popular Street Cry stallion Street Boss (USA), (pictured ), Tougherthantherest is the third foal and second winner.

Bred and owned by Keith Dryden and partners, Tougherthantherest is the third foal and second winner out of the Stravinsky mare De Prima Ballerina a half-sister to the dam of Group II WRC Wakefield Challenge winner Steel Rose (Guillotine).

De Prima Ballerina has a filly foal by Delago Deluxe and was covered by Bobby's Kitten (USA) in his first season at stud at Twin Hills.

Tougherthantherest becomes the 31st stakes-winner for Street Boss (USA) who covered 110 mares last spring at an increased fee of $33,000.
