Nadeem's Karavali Strikes in Aspiration

Mark Smith - Saturday March 10

A model of consistency, the Kris Lees-trained Karavali earned a well-deserved maiden stakes win in Saturday's Group III Aspiration Quality (1600m) at Randwick.

Given a soft run from an inside barrier by Jason Collett, Karavali finished strongly to nail The Pinnacle (So You Think) in the final strides to win by a head with fast-finishing Nettoyer (Sebring) a half-head back in third. (photo Steve Hart)

A winner in New Zealand where she was fourth in the Group 1 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes before joining the Lees stable in Newcastle, Karavali advances her record to 4 wins, 4 seconds and 2 thirds from 15 starts with earnings of $215,387.

"She has come back in really good order," Lees said

"We put her away with a plan for this race and the Epona Stakes in a fortnight.
"It's great to get some black-type with a nice mare for Edward Throsby and I think she has more races in store when she gets over a bit of ground.

"Her manners have improved that's the important thing, she always had a lot of ability but was a handful on raceday, so she is getting race confidence and you can't beat winning.

A 4yo daughter on Nadeem, Karavali is a sister to Listed winner, Sir Nate.

Her dam Just Diamonds (No Excuse Needed) is a half-sister to multiple Listed winner Analyst (Deputy Governor) out of Alynda's sister Jewel Box the dam of Listed winner Ash Bond and the granddam of Group 1 winner Penny Gem and the Group III winner and dual Group 1 placed Entirely Platinum.

This is the hugely successful family descending from Sovereign Edition's sister Royal News (IRE).
