Magic Continues for Better Than Ready's Hidden Wealth

Breednet - Friday January 17

Tony Gollan and Tommy Berry capped a huge night on the Gold Coast on Friday when Hidden Wealth won the $1 million Racing Queensland Magic Millions QTIS Open (1300m).

Hidden Wealth wins

The win gave both the trainer and the jockey a double, after Berry captured the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on O’Ole and Gollan won his fourth Magic Millions Snippets with Zarastro.

Like Zarastro, Hidden Wealth has made a habit of winning in Gollan’s care, with Friday’s win over Cifrado and Boom Torque taking his record to nine victories from 17 starts.

A $110,000 purchase alongside bloodstock agent John Foote from the Kynoch Thoroughbreds draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale, the Better Than Ready gelding has now netted more than $1.5 million in prizemoney and bonuses for his connections.

Gollan said the four-year-old can continue his rise in 2025.

“It’s awesome,” Gollan said.

“It’s one of our biggest days of the year up here in Queensland and it’s certainly a day you want to train winners in your home state.

“I’ve got a lot of faith in this horse.

“I felt he’d done really well during the week and I came here with a lot of confidence tonight.

“We were happy to be up on the speed and Tommy is a great rider, I think he’s only ridden the horse three times for three wins so he’s got as much faith in the horse as I do.

“He’s a horse that will win a good race.”

Berry has now won three races on Hidden Wealth and hailed the five-year-old as pone of the easiest horses he’s ridden, albeit he said there were a few nervous moments shortly after the barriers opened.

“He actually just dropped his head coming out of the gates at the start and he never does that but he recovered so quickly, got himself into the right spot and just relaxed so quickly as well.

“He’s the easiest horse I’ve ever ridden to put in a spot.

“I shouldn’t get paid for him but I will.”

All but three of the 25 yearlings by Better Than Ready in the catalogue for the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale sold last week, including Lot 526, a filly out of Redoute’s Choice mare Istiraaha, that was bought by Gollan, Foote and Blacksoil Racing for $200,000.
