Yulong Winner Trained by OShea Charlton

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 15

Yulong have been generous in spreading their horses amongst a myriad of trainers and the John O’Shea / Tom Charlton partnership had their first winner for the operation at Randwick on Wednesday when flashy Blue Point (IRE) colt Blue Vein opened his account with a powerful win.

Second on debut at Newcastle last March, Blue Vein has been off the scene for quite a while and was second up in the 1400m and unleashed with a big finish for Tommy Berry to win by nearly two lengths running away.

A homebred for Yulong, Blue Vein is the fourth winner from five foals to race from Group II winning Not a Single Doubt mare Gypsy Diamond, who was trained by O’Shea and purchased by Yulong for $1.3million at the 2018 Inglis Chairman’s Sale as a broodmare prospect.

Tom Charlton believes better wins are ahead for Bleu Vein.

Yulong have quite an investment in this family as they also own Gypsy Diamond’s dam Gypsy Tucker, who has given them two time stakes-winner Miraval Rose, by their resident sire Grunt.

Gypsy Diamond was covered by Grunt in December after missing to Lucky Vega (IRE) and Gypsy Tucker went to Alabama Express after missing to Pierata.
