Blueblood Filly Wins for Spendthrift

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 6
Opening her account with a surprise win at Bendigo on Tuesday was regally bred Street Cry (IRE) filly Silent Roar, a $550,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Spendthrift Farm from the Widden Stud draft.

Silent Roar as a yearlingNot placed in two previous starts, the Hawkes Racing trained filly appreciated a step up in distance to 1600 metres to score a long neck win at the long odds of $26.

Ridden forward to travel second by Dwayne Dunn, she was tenacious to the line and will no doubt relish even longer assignments.

Silent Roar is the fourth winner from foals to race from Group I South Australian Derby and Oaks winner Zarita.

She was bred by Bill Frost, who also raced her dam Zarita with much success, the daughter of Pentire (GB) winning nine races and over $1.6 million in prizemoney.

Sadly, Silent Roar is the last foal of Zarita, who died in 2016.
